Digging up childhood Gastronomical memories

Last minute photography needs, a local chef with a need to harness social media, a local community event in 6 days, & world's colliding like never before came together into the perfect digital marketing tempest towards the end of the summer.

A local chef who's family immigrated to Michigan a few years ago from the island country of Haiti has a dream of opening her own restaurant & community food provider organization. Working diligently on her dream while also working full time in social work and raising her family, a rock pretty close to a hard place presented itself to her. With only a week until a large community food event that will feature her meals happening in downtown Flint, MI her photographer bailed to create promotional images of her cuisine while also, come to find out later, needing help promoting the event on social media.

While the job was a random find on a random freelance forum, this was a chance client meeting like never before. In my younger days, at the turn of the century, I had the opportunity visit Haiti twice - first over my 13th birthday & secondly over my 14th birthday. Talk about coming of age experiences. With the luxury of hindsight these experiences were instrumental in the creation of what and who I am now. With this perspective in tow I arrived at the job with props straight from the source, now two decades old. A few statues, little food dishes, Haitian toys, paintings, etc to help fill the table and bring it home. My favorite was a globe (not from Haiti) that I feature in the bento box from Hawaii where you can see the island of the food’s origin. How the Haitian artifacts survived the journey to this point, I do not know.

The session went well and we talked about the overall project, learning the aforementioned details about the event at the end of the week and her situation. While sharing with her the full scope of Biography Social Media's services beginning at content creation and spreading to social media management, website work, etc I could see the relief melt from her shoulders.

Heavily focused on content syndication & pairing organic with paid content I developed & executed a plan that not only allowed her social media presence to grow over 115% in 2.5 days, content was shared over & over again, & user-generated content was developed but her food sold out at the event! At the end of the day, that's the only KPI that matters.
